Behaviours and Habit Formation

You can change your behaviour and create habits. Read this article to learn more how to.

March 25, 2026

Healthy learning behaviours are the building blocks of habits. When you are able to understand your good and bad behaviours, you will be able to give more focus on having more good behaviours.

Always keep in mind that learning should never be outcome oriented. The process of learning is often most important. When you start to follow this principle, you will be able to see a significant improvement in your learning initiatives and life itself.

Is there a process for positive learning approach?

Yes. And it is just three simple steps.

  1. Preparation: Start with finding the why to learning (called setting the learning intention). If it is a big one, break it into smaller parts (obviously).

Make the learning process a must-dos in your daily priority list, which staisfies your human demand of autonomy.

Always expect there will be roadblocks (or lame excuses). This can be from your skills (ability to do), opportunity (chance to do), or will (desire to do).

You must have a plan in mind to counter these obstacles.

  1. Execution: Implement what you prepared, at the right amound of challenge which helps to extend the expertise. Keep in mind to pay close attention to whatever you do.

You get the best learning experience by going through the continuous involvement in the challenging processes. Challenging yourselves (on right things) even help you to build the confidence significantly.

However finding the right balance is always important so that you can enjoy what you do while not being too much to do it for a long time.

Sharing what you learned to others helps you to even learn more, and even to understand what you don’t know in that subject.

  1. Review: You may fail what you tried. And you may win. Whatever the result is, ensure to learn from what your efforts.

Ask feedbacks by self and from the other people (right ones) because it helps you to understand things from a different perspective.

How Behaviour Becomes Habits?

Understanding your good and bad behaviours plays crucial step in habit formation. Once you have identified the good ones, try making it a habit through the following habit formation loop.

The 4-Step Habit Formation Loop

  1. Cue: The trigger that tells your brain to go into automatic mode and which habit to use. Ensure that cue is visible and easily noticeable.
  2. Craving: The motivational force that drives the behavior. Keep in mind that cravings are appealing and desirable.
  3. Response: It is the actual behavior or action you take. Make it simple and effortless.
  4. Reward: The positive reinforcement that tells your brain this loop is worth remembering for the future. Ensure it is enjoyable and reinforcing.
